I was privileged to join our elementary school on the first ever pumpkin picking field trip! We packed up the students in our bus and traveled to Bauman’s Farm. It was a great event seeing how cider was made, feeding goats, and picking our pumpkins, gourds and Indian corn! For me, the biggest blessing was to watch nearly 50 elementary students enjoying their time, and to think a year ago having a K-5 school was a vision. I remember distinctly last year, being impressed by the Lord to move forward and start an elementary school. Having walked with the Lord for over 40 years, I have learned that when He asks one to step out in faith, He is there all the way working things out for our good and His glory. Again, the Lord provides testimony of His faithfulness and the importance of us leaning on Him in faith for all that is before us. The writer of Hebrews says, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” You and I in each avenue of our lives have the privilege of exercising faith in our Heavenly Father to move “mountains” that are in front of us. I am reminded of the chorus,
“Faith in God can move a mighty mountain,
Faith can calm the troubled sea;
Faith can make a desert like a fountain,
Faith can bring the victory.”
Let what God is doing at Western be an encouragement to you that God is at work in the lives of His people moving mountains, calming seas and bringing the victory!
Western’s name is a gift from God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Western’s life comes from these THREE!! Looking at our new logo, i see Them set forth. For me the logo is a ‘sandwich.’ Western-CROSS-School. The CROSS is the ‘cement’ that holds the W and the S together. A very favorite hymn of mine is “At Calvary.” The fourth verse says it all, “O the love that drew salvations plan! O the grace that brought it down to man! O the mighty gulf that God did span At Calvary.” My prayer is that we celebrate our unity around the cross. As we spend time there, our differences will be will loose their value, and John 3:16-17 will be our watchword.
Thank you for those words Ralph, what a fitting hymn and verse to describe what is so foundational to our faith and our school! we love knowing that people see that the Cross is central and integral to all that we do here at Western.
Wow, I didn’t know that Western started an elementary school! That is great news and a sure sign that things are going well! I’ll be keeping the school in my prayers. The new website, logo, and newsletter also looks great. 🙂
Thank you Lacey, we appreciate your thoughts and prayers, this is indeed an exciting time for Western!
